Fremd and Schaumburg opened their Mid Suburban West schedule Friday night in Schaumburg. Last Season the Vikings swept the season series en route to a 20-10 overall finish and 5-5 conference record.
Throughout the offseason, Saxons' first year head coach Jason Tucker bragged about the potential of his young backcourt: 6'0 Vonte McCoy, and 5'11" Jordan Tunis. The two sophomore guards would prove Coach Tucker right Friday night. The duo of McCoy and Tunis jump-started the Saxons to a 12-3 run before the Vikings, led by senior guard Ryan Sammons, answered with a 10-1 run of their own.

Jordan Tunis shined with 26 points, including 6 threes. During the third quarter, he and Vikings junior guard Ryan Cox were answering each other's three point shots. Cox finished with 15 points total, and had 4 threes.
The final stretch had a bit of a deja vu feeling attached to it. Fremd's Cameron Kuhl hit a three at the buzzer to end the third quarter, reminiscent to last year's heroics of Eli Schoffstall. At this time last season at Fremd, Schoffstall hit a long three to end the third, and the walkoff three at the buzzer to beat Barrington.
Flash forward back to Friday night; Fremd had the ball down 2 with nine seconds to go.
The Vikings were able to get a shot off, but it fell short. The Saxons hung on to win 55-53 as there was no Eli Schoffstall moment this time around for the Vikings.
Both teams go to 3-2 on the year. The Vikings travel to Grant Saturday night, and the Saxons host Wheeling Tuesday night.
